The Child

He walked amongst the rubble of what used to be a grand city made of glass. His bare feet bleeding; the shards penetrating the soles, leaving a trail of red footprints along the asphalt of Main Street. The sun was high in the blueness of the sky. Around him people ascended upwards; the shadows of the people were becoming strange shapes, growing wide and then smaller the higher they ascended. The child didn’t speak, nor did he scream out, but instead watched the people rising higher and higher all around him. Little specs reduced to atoms. His steps were of  leisure–a stride suited for a Sunday morning walk.
